should i get an RAC check on a car bought from a dealer??

Personally I'd get it inspected by a local, recommended independent marque specialist. They're more likely to know of the common faults affecting your model. I assume its a main dealer you're buying from?

just any dealer that has what we want. its a Volvo

If its not a main dealer that you're buying from then maybe a main dealer would inspect it for you. They're likely to find lots of things wrong with it though that aren't necessarily at the end of their life and could put you off buying what is a generally good car.
