BUSTERTHEDOG · 18/02/2004 09:43

E3 EXPLORER vs EASYLIFE SPORT vs MOUUNTAIN BUGGY - SOMEONE HELP ME CHOOSE!

My son is 2.5 years old and I want a suitable buggy for walking the dog etc, that will last til he's about 5 if poss.

Which is lightest / best out of these - has anyone pushed them all?

hub2dee · 17/04/2005 18:22

When I suggested going straight to cot lots of mums here said it was too big / spacey / not cosy enough for newborn.

I know you could use a cot divider, but I think the consensus was that a crib / Moses basket is better to begin with...

Sling decision ? Yeah, right.

Am hoping to pop into bluebear's cave at some point and see a Kelty Kanagroo.

charleypops · 18/04/2005 11:29

Where they using a bedside cot though?

the Kangaroo looks interesting and fun for when the baby's a bit older. I think I want a hippy dippy sling thing for first few months though - for round the house/breastfeeding/quick trips to our local beer garden and stuff. Hope they're not all tie dyed or (worse) Aztec though....

hub2dee · 18/04/2005 12:17

Not too sure about whether I made it clear the cot was dropside, and I suppose that would make a big difference (as they'd have perhaps imagined it in another room etc.)...

hmmm...

Good luck with your slinging... just love the fact that you need to decide this stuff before me !!! I may just freeload on your exhaustive research !!!!

(Wonder if we should move our insanity into another thread so that everyone doesn't think we're STILL talking about MBs...)

moschops · 21/04/2005 14:08

making the longest thread in the world longer...........after frying my brain thinking about nappies (think i got that one sorted) i've turned to looking at buggies.

been to look at the mountain buggy website and really like the look of the 'rollerbug'........and cannot find one anywhere?

i'm rubbish at searching the net so if anyone can help me at all it would be much appreciated. it would be typical, however, of me to pick a product that i can't actually get!!

Chuffed · 21/04/2005 16:08

Phone the number for the importer in uk (01404) 815 555 they should be able to tell you who stocks them near you.
hub2dee dd went straight into a cot beside the bed, we took the side off so it was like an extension to the bed and dd was fine. She looked tiny in it. Did buy a newborn grobag though which helped keep her feeling cosy.

beachyhead · 21/04/2005 16:40

Back onto pushchairs - you have almost pushed me into a Terrain....but who is Nigel? and why do you phone him all the time.......

beachyhead · 21/04/2005 17:13

where have you all gone now then?????

moschops · 21/04/2005 18:42

totally off topic i have that song 'making plans for Nigel' going round my head now ;)

charleypops · 22/04/2005 17:20

oo - this thread's been reactivated! How exciting!! sorry I missed it the other day...

Moschops - there's was brand new MB Rollerbug on Ebay a few days ago - it might still be there. Not seen one in the flesh though. Have you seen the Mutsys? They seem to be along similar lines..... Have a poke round that website, they look pretty cool.

Beachy -- Oh go on! Join us in a Terrain! Then we can all moan to each other about trying to to turn them round in shops and clipping people's shins!

Nigel is the manager (I think) at pushchairs.co.uk He's a real boffin and can answer any technical question you can throw at him.

spottydogs · 11/05/2005 10:19

moschops - don't know if this helps but I contacted Mountain Buggy Uk a while back whilst on the buggy mission - they told me that they don't do them anymore - s'pose the best bet will be look on ebay etc. I went for the Terrain Pro in the end and the beloved Nigel has very kindly put one aside for me!! good luck in the buggy quest - I'm quite glad I've done that one and not sleeping, eating and living buggies - moved onto cots now - any advice anyone - has be white and well built without being too expensive - i.e less than £300?? do you think we might all be obsessive types??

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 13:25

We're all obsessive types without a question.

CP and I rather like the Global Dropside, but it's not white. John Lewis had a few white ones...

spottydogs · 11/05/2005 13:55

thanks Hub - seen that one and must say is a very good idea - have moses basket ready for the side of the bed and plan to get the small one in the nursery quite early (after 8 weeks or so). Seen the ones in JL too - just wondering if there were any different ones out there...

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 14:04

Do you want to blow large amounts of cash ? I only ask becuase I was surfing some old thread - 'luxury products for a baby' or something like that... and there was a couple of companies doing entire nursery sets, in white, for silly money, but it was pitched at the high end of the market...

spottydogs · 11/05/2005 14:16

thanks for that Hub but I've been quite lucky - dh is a carpenter by trade and has built the furniture from my designs - sort of shabby chic style with a little cut out heart and stuff - I love it. We just need to buy the cot now - oh and I bouncy chair! can't seem to get the same enthusiasm with them as a buggy though! quite glad I finally made the buggy decision but miss the researching!!! i'm going to have to find something else to research before I go mad! have starting planning freeze ahead meals though - sad I know but Delia has a little section on her site with advice. still not as fun as buggy research though. Just emailed Nigel to check my terrain is still set aside for me!

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 14:36

Great to have a chippy to hand...

Here, I remembered the name: www.seraphine.com/

I get to meet my Terrain in about two weeks ! (Baby's not due till 2nd August)...

spottydogs · 11/05/2005 17:23

excellent - mine should be here end of May/Beg of June - baby due end of June- so let us know if you get yours first - god - hope we're not all bitterly disappointed - afterall it's been such a work up!! Can't help but have a smug grin when I see others pushing the wannabe MBs! it'll be even worse when I have it! thanks for the link - like that stuff! seen an advert in Junior preg magazine - which is a really good mag to read - worth getting and much better than the crappy other ones.

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 17:27

The layout of that mag is magic.

The articles are interesting.

And I agree it's in a different league to the other stuff...

vickiyumyum · 11/05/2005 17:31

hee hee long time no hear hub2dee! glad the buggys sorted and for you too spottydogs! now we could start a whole new thread on junior magazine, i love it, i've been buying it since it started and never miss an issue have brought the preganncy and birth one a few time too (sad i know). it's great for better researched articles and the products tested are generally of a better quality than the other parenting magazines, not forgetting the lovely fashion pages for the kids. (although have to say my husband hates me buying it, says it costs too much money buying all the stuff that i see in it!)
don't forget to keep us posted on the baby situation and lets see a picture of the happy family when it happens.

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 17:39

yumyum ! Hiya !

Was considering a subscription but then I figured babba would be here before I know it and in a flash we'd be needing the 'junior magazine'... hmmm...

I'd much rather my dw bought this mag than Hello / OK / Heat / Marie Claire / Tatler / whatever other crud I hassle her about.

vickiyumyum · 11/05/2005 17:42

just buy it for her a few times and i'm sure that when the little one has arrived and shes in the mummy zone she'll start buying it of her own accord.
i know that was the way with me, i alwasy said that i would return to work asap, not talk about my baby all the time, not become obsessed with websites like mumsnet and now look whats happened!

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 17:51

Tragic, innit.

At least it's deemed OK for your sex, I mean men going gagga for babies is deemed weird and worrying, LOL....

vickiyumyum · 11/05/2005 18:06

as i think i've said before i wish my hub had paid more attention to the finer details rather than leave them all to me.
so keep up the good work hub. hope she appreciates it all!

hub2dee · 11/05/2005 18:11

Some of us work with detail, some of us with the big picture, others just don't work at all.

Am sure dw appreciates it, and she doesn't mind too much when I say 'nooooooo.... don't get that bodysuit / babygro / grobag / sling / cot etc. because there's this other one I heard about on mumsnet that's soooooo much better...'

PS - ref dh: Could you maybe give him a specific delegated task / purchasing area... maybe it's 'all a bit much' and 'alien' but something like a 'washable bib which catches dropped baby food' or a 'folding high chair in wood with tray' might be direct enough, and narrow enough in scope for him to stun you with his capabilities ?

Poochuk · 19/07/2005 13:11

Hello,

Am going through the difficult process of deciding a pushchair for our first baby due end August. We live in central london, so lifestyle is walking in park, using bus and tube for transport. Would love some advice on what people have found the best pushchair for getting around in London with a new born. Also some questions re the ones being discussed:

  1. Mountain Buggy- isn't it too big for the bus/tube. Also is it better to have baby rear-facing for first few months.

  2. Maclaren XT - just seems so flimsy and baby seems quite close to the ground when laid flat.

  3. Bugaboo - is so popular in central london, but why? it didn't seem particularly easy to use and the carrycot is quite deep so lot of bending??

  4. Pilko Pramette- This is the one I liked the most, but not many people seem to have it are there any bad points?

Sorry to go on but would really appreciate advice

Chuffed · 19/07/2005 13:54

We are in central london, mountain buggy urban here. Love it, easy to steer, avoid people etc, up and down curbs, stairs. Haven't really had any problems on buses, once I had to jump on the back doors as there were too many people in the aisle paid at front, then jumped in back doors.
dd was born in March, we had a sleeping bag and a sheepskin in the buggy which she lay on so really cosy when she was little.
Can't imagine lugging a smaller wheeled pram up stairs etc. Used an umbrella fold in the weekend with dd and she hated it after being in the mountain buggy for 15mths.
