E3 EXPLORER vs EASYLIFE SPORT vs MOUUNTAIN BUGGY - SOMEONE HELP ME CHOOSE!

My son is 2.5 years old and I want a suitable buggy for walking the dog etc, that will last til he's about 5 if poss.

Which is lightest / best out of these - has anyone pushed them all?

Not sure about the coffeemaker yet Charleypops
but have now got another one to look into. And yes, if you do need a double in a few years then go for the MB. It was the only one with a carrycot fitting when I chose it last year, which is why I chose it, but am now a total convert (& I'm not at all outdoorsy and live in inner London) With a double I didn't think the non-swivelling wheel would work at all, as my children are so different in weight. I tested it somewhere in Hertfordshire in a blizzard!

andif · 06/04/2005 16:37

Just realised my neighbour has MB urban double, so MUST try it out!! Maybe I could borrow it to try dog walking off road...but I might have to take the twins with me and I'm not sure I'm ready for that!!

charleypops · 07/04/2005 11:09

Dp's left me his card. I am going to order the washing machine.

He said he thinks we should, after all, get the Terrain!! and to order it today also!!

He also told me to order the cot and car seat.

I'm scared. It's all too much! Actual Decisions. AARRGGHHH!

charleypops · 07/04/2005 11:11

Andif - I'm scared of kids at the best of times, let alone a set of twins! so if I were you, I'd invite myself on a walk with your neighbour and ask if you can have a go pushing them. Then you can give them back straight away!

Also you might look a bit weird if you just take a pushchair to the park without any kids

andif · 07/04/2005 11:21

CP, just before you buy.....another thought on Terrain. Walked this am with friend with e3 - she hasn't worked out how to fix the wheel yet and managed pretty fine on v rough, hilly ground. She was also saying that went shopping with friend who has a fixed wheel and she was continually apologising for hitting people and displays as she turned corners - with longer wheel base it is hard to see what you are doing, even if it is easy. Friend said (now on no.4, voice of experience) she would NEVER buy a fixed wheel unless she never went anywhere other than the park with it.
BTW, which cot are you buying...I'm obsessed with the Stokke..!

hub2dee · 07/04/2005 11:37

Oh dear, andif, with one little click of the 'Post Message' button our world has just collapsed....

Maybe your mum of 4 spends all day shopping, so needs light umbrella stroller, or has never tried a modern 3 wheeler like the Terrain ? Older ones were bloomin awkward and heavy. I expect the Terrain is easier ???

andif · 07/04/2005 12:21

So soooo sorry!! Beg forgiveness! I'm afraid 3 wheeler in question is modern (from us), easy to manoevre and she spends more time walking dog than shopping....just lots of experience and need for one pushchair to do everything!!!
Spoke to Nigel, trying to compare his brill packages with buying in US (NB would only save max £100 in US, fewer freebies and no warranty, so have decided prob not worth it for dh hassle!). When I described what I needed, he said why not Terrain...when I explained the knocking everything over in town issue, he relented...!!
NB From my experience, (this is no.3) strollers are fine to stash in car for occasional use with toddler, but wouldn't use with baby and not planning to give up shopping for a year!!!!

hub2dee · 07/04/2005 12:34

Hmmm....

charleypops · 07/04/2005 15:54

Oh andif! I've been knocked off course again! Do you know esactly which fixed wheel your friend's friend has? It might be considerably longer/heavier than the Terrain? Did you tell Nigel you spent more time shopping than off-roading? I wouldn't use an umbrella type stroller for a baby either, so need to know it will see me round the shops reasonably well for a year.

this is the only cot for me! (thank gawd!) 'cause it's a bedside one and you don't need to slide the "spare" side out from underneath everytime you want to put the baby down for a nap while you're out of the room.

charleypops · 07/04/2005 15:56

it's the Global Bedside cot...

andif · 07/04/2005 16:41

Just to make things worse, spoke to neighbour with double urban. She offered me her single landrover 3 wheeler which she says she much prefers.......aaggghh

hub2dee · 07/04/2005 16:55

Thank goodness it's no longer being made then !

andif · 07/04/2005 17:03

Hadn't realised that!!! That's good, as I'd have to get a carrycot for it, so presumably they don't do those anymore either. Excellent, mind made up, 2004 Urban bargain package from Nigel.......

charleypops · 07/04/2005 17:17

Do you know how much she'd like for her Landrover? I love those

andif · 07/04/2005 18:00

She was surprised when I said they have a good resale value (me and my big mouth!) - she was going to stick it in the local paper as she can't be bothered with ebay. I'll ask her tomorrow, but I doubt it will be much. Apparently it's hardly used!

charleypops · 07/04/2005 18:07

I was watching one on Ebay a few days ago thinking I could get one as a back up to my MB. Silly me thought I might be able to get it for about £15. Sadly no - went for about £150 I think and it had no accessories and the back wheels needed replacing! Maybe you should get it as a back up to your NEW URBAN!! Are you excited?! I know I will be... What did your neighbour say about getting the Landrover round town shopping?

andif · 07/04/2005 18:15

Sort of excited, but not due til Sept, so think I'm a bit ahead of myself... Ought to wait until after next scan on 9/5, but Nigel only has a few 2004 models left...
Will ask her about landrover around town - I don't want it even as back up as determined not to have fuss of more than one buggy, although I could stick it in the cellar.....then I could have a mugaboo for shopping!!!

charleypops · 07/04/2005 18:57

Gosh - you're much more organised than me! I've still not bought one thing for my bump and I'm due in June Only managed to order the washing machine today....

hub2dee · 07/04/2005 19:00

cp... sounds like you chose and ordered that washing machine in less than a day or so. You did well !!!

Might you revisit buggy dealer to have another bash at Urban vs. Terrain ?

charleypops · 08/04/2005 14:22

Hi hub - yes wasn't that brave! Shame it won't be here for 2 weeks though - think it's coming from Germany. So excited it's quite sad - I keep thinking about it measuring the suds and analysing the absorbancy

I thnk the only place for me to go is Chariots in Devon. Can't find a decent place to try them out anywhere - certainly nowhere with the zip hammock seat in the Terrain

andif - have you spoken with your neighbour yet?

hub2dee · 08/04/2005 14:51

Hope the washing machine lands soon and and that it performs till you are old and the children are looking after you !

I've been looking at the Global dropside range this AM. Our bedroom is not massive, so was trying to figure out logistics of crib vs. cot and how old baby is before crib is too small etc. etc. etc. Are you hoping to start with the crib or cot ?... was thinking maybe a Moses basket type thing would be better when tiny so as can carry downstairs without waking up which you can't obviously do with the Global product...

andif · 08/04/2005 14:58

Now I really can be the voice of experience on cribs etc!!!
I had a swinging crib - looked nice, but babies hated it! IME they need something cosier than a crib or cot to start with (that's if they don't end up in bed with you - whatever you think at the moment, it's bound to happen...!) The crib seemed to jiggle a bit when they moved which unnerved them. I think I'll go for a moses cot to start with this time, then it's easy to move around the house too (but I think carrying a baby downstairs in it sounds a bit dangerous!) I'm going to get the Stokke cot as it's so cute as a mini, and can be easily wheeled from room to room as it is quite narrow. In my case, as more children are unlikely, it grows right up to a bed, and then chairs which sounds great!

jojo28 · 08/04/2005 15:10

Loved my moses basket, they look so great and you can take them with you when you go to stay somwhere else. I used to move mine about the house and then when I was getting him used to his cot I would pop him in the moses basket inside the cot. But remeber to get a matress my poor chap was sleeping on the bare basket bit for months befors I realised you were meant to put one in!

andif · 08/04/2005 16:35

Cp, friend wants £100 for landrover - she says it's in perfect condition, and is going to bring it round over the weekend for me to look at. No carrycot though - don't know if you can still get them. We're in North Kingston if you're interested!
Taken ages to type this coz hands frozen from park - feels like bloody winter!

andif · 08/04/2005 16:38
