Which 1st geared bike for 5yo DS

DS has mastered bike riding and wants to go faster, so gears are needed Smile
I'm aware of the popularity of Islabikes, but wonder if there is a more reasonably priced alternative as I suspect this bike will suffer many scrapes and bashes.
Am happy to buy 2nd hand so would welcome advice on where (other than ebay) to look.
We're in S Manchester.
TIA

These bikes are for slightly older kids, but maybe you can use the article as a starting point to look at bikes in the same range, but younger?

frog bikes are good althought not much cheaper than Islabikes

Puky are also worth a look, though tend to have quite kiddy colours. They tend to have hub gears which are much less hassle than derailleur.

Tbh, I'd still be tempted by a second hand islabike. They hold their value so well that they work out very cheap in the longer term. And they are really sturdy, despite being so light.

Thanks for all of the suggestions Smile
