Like the answer to this one too - hairy dog - don't mind uprights......

LeahE · 26/06/2006 08:53

Probably best for you is Bosch BSG72025GB Pro Pets (good on everything except allergen retention and v good on pet hair)

Miele S4510 might be an option but is more expensive.

LeahE · 26/06/2006 08:54

Must cancel my WHich online subscription as this is the first time I've used it all year

lahdeedah · 26/06/2006 08:55

they recommend several Bosch and Miele cylinder vacuum cleaners, ranging from £90 to £230 - tell me your price range and I'll tell you the ones they recommend.

lahdeedah · 26/06/2006 08:55

ahh Leah got there first!

smable · 26/06/2006 08:57

I don't have which anymore but they used to like the miele cat and dog we,ve got the meile solution hepa tt which is like the cat and dog but has a special head for wooden floors aswell it's really good much better than the dyson we had before

LeahE · 26/06/2006 08:57

Many of them have a black mark on pet hair, though, lahdeedah (though you have to go into the detail page to see that) -- I think the two I mentioned are the only overall Best Buys that get a good or v good on pet hair (could have missed one of the irritatingly similarly-named Miele ones).

handlemecarefully · 26/06/2006 09:02

Thanks LeahE - I don't mind expensive, and I am prepared to pay a lot if it is good. Would that be the Miele S4510 then?

I always look at price first that's why I mentioned it. Just trying to be helpful.

The Bosch and the Miele actually score the same overall...

First up, one of two models from Bosch, the highly impressive burgundy Bosch BSG 72025GB Pro Pets. This vac gives great results on wooden floors and doesn't disappoint on carpet and laminate surfaces either. As a specialist pet model, it comes with a handy 'turbo' brush accessory: a rotating brush head which is great for picking up pet hair.

The cleaner is easy to use, too. Changing bags and filters is quick and easy and manoeuvring on stairs is a breeze. It's not as good as other cleaners at retaining allergens but, that aside, there's little to fault with this machine. It's available online for around £110.

The Miele S4510 is the top-of-the-range model in Miele's S4 compact series, from which we recommend three Best Buys. This version has superior features such as an optional turbo brush head. Using this head helps the vac do a great job on all floor surfaces and it sucks up pet hair a treat. It's great on carpets but first class on wooden or laminate floors, leaving them virtually spotless.

You'll enjoy using this machine, too. Miele has added a new touch to this version: a specially shaped 'comfort' handle designed to take pressure off your wrist. Meanwhile, its compact size makes it one of the best we've tried on stairs. In elegant 'polar ice' shade, this vac costs £166 online.

Oh pants. Ignore previous message -- it ate half the asterisks. I'll try again
