Is the Kindle Paperwhite just black and white?

Is it just black and white with a light behind it? Can you get children's books with coloured pictures?

Paperwhites are just black (grey) and white.
I have some kids books on mine, but the pics are awful.

There are some books it said were unsuitable to download, so I assume those are for the fire, which I believe has a colour screen.

All e-readers are black and white. The Kindle fire is a tablet that has the Kindle app on it (and not a very good tablet at that) it isn't an e-reader and is backlit so bad for the eyes if using to read regularly.
