tube-suitable double pushchair?

I should go to the underground station an measure the width of the escalator. But some of you may know about it. Currently I have a borrowed tandem, but I have to give it back. I would like to have a side by side since I cannot recline the front seat and it is uncomfortable for my 2 year old (ds2 is 8 months). So I would need a narrow pushchair, BUT a seat that can accomodate DS1's broad shoulders, he is 90cm and 16 kilos.
Thanks!

the maclaren twin is about the narrowest I think; that's 74 cm according to kiddicare.com.

could you get by with a buggy board?
or a sling/backpack for the little one?
i would not like to try getting a double onto a tube, but cannot help with specific measurements.

Hovely, I think I do need a double pushchair because the little one is too heavy to be carried around (he is too big for his sling also). The toddler is too naughty to be left loose! Also he does nap when we are out, so I need something reclinable for him. I'm going to check out that one, shazronnie. Thanks!
