Right i am having a dilemma, Dd is nearly 5 months she is in a swinging crib at the moment but she keeps waking in the night & she is quite frustrated in the crib, i told my HV who said she thinks it would be better if i put her in a cot because there is more room etc etc.

Anyway thats fine i wanted to put her into a cot soon anyway, but my dilemas are.

  1. What size cot i was going to get one from mothercare it is one of the middle sized ones but now i am not so sure if i should get one of the bigger type once which is a cotbed? What do you think?

  2. I have a mattress from when ds was a baby which we brought brand new from mothercare for about £120 its lovely & clean like new really as ds went into a bed early as he used throw himself out of his cot Grin
BUT i heard you are suppost to buy a new mattress for each baby? anyone know the reasons for this? & most importantly am i risking my dd's life by using ds's mattress (this is my main concern)

So what do i do?

A) Buy the medium cot that i already have a mattress for

OR

B)Buy the cotbed & a new mattress?

  1. A standard cot is fine IMO. DSs went from this to a full sized single at just under 3 years old. It was plenty big enough for them.
  2. The old mattress is fine.

Just looked at the mattress i have & it can be put in a cot any anything between 63-67 wide & 127-131 long, does this sound ok or should i go for the one that is 70x140?

We had a mothercare cot and I reused the matress for ds2 as it had a zip off washable top cover on the matress. You could also buy a replacement top cover at the time (couple of years ago) maybe you still can. I recently gave my cot to the charity shop as I couldn't give it away.

I knoe ebay have lots of cheap cots both second hand and new. The medium size one was fine for both my boys too.
