My dh prepared a lovely surprise for me this weekend - dinner and a show in London (he'd managed to find a bargain on Lastminute.com to get such a nice treat on a limited budget).
Anyway, got to the restaurant (Rock Garden in Covent Garden) only to find that they had no record of us at all and hence no theatre tickets had been booked nor the a la carte meal paid for despite dh booking well in advance and the money had left his bank account. Apparently this is not an unusual occurence and Rock Garden have had a lot of "issues" with Lastminute.com in the past (although the manager did mention they'd been getting better recently).
Fortunately for us, the Rock Garden manager was fantastic - despite it not being their fault, he gave us a 70% discount from the normal menu to make it up to us, and the service was first rate. They tried their very best to buy some replacement theatre tickets on our behalf but with short notice on a Saturday night it wasn't going to happen. He did say that they regularly arrange tickets and to phone up direct next time, avoiding a third party agent.
So (no thanks to Lastminute.com) we had a brilliant day anyway, but I thought I'd post to warn any mumsnetter thinking of using Lastminute.com that they don't seem very reliable and a very special occasion could have been utterly ruined by their incompetence. My top tip: avoid them like the plague - the "convenience" and "bargains" aren't worth it.
