Sleep issues - Sheepskin rug in cot?

I am having trouble getting my 10 month old to sleep alone. We have co slept off an on since birth but after a run of various ailments and teeth she is really used to me sleeping with her and breast feeding through the night. I wonder if anyone has any tips or thoughts on how I can help her to settle in the cot on her own. I don't want to do controlled crying. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I have heard of sheepskin rugs being helpful for sleep as they keep a constant temperature and that they don't get washed so build up a smell which is comforting...

Have you tried having the cot right next to you?
I think it's worth trying to have something that smells of mummy in the cot with her. I used a sheepskin too, but I don't know what current advice is.
