I got one at my local ncr sale and i don't understand how it works. I've bought a cassette stuck it in, tied a knot, put the nappy in then shut the kid and turned and nothing. I have been on youtube and looked at the instructions for newer versions that have a handle to turn on top. This one doesn't. The hook on the underneath of the lid doesn't seem to catch anything. The casette is supposed to be universal size. Have I bought a dud bin or am I just an idiot?

No,you haven't bought a dud, it just doesn't have instructions!

You have already inserted the cartridge and tied it up (if the next bit doesn't work, we'll check that bit is ok).

Open the lid of the bin using the clip on the front (not the two clips on the sides) push the nappy into the liner, then, without closing the lid, grab the white ring part and twist it with your hand. I usually do 2 turns to be sure it is completely twisted on itself. Once twisted, close the lid.

Don't close the lid and twist the circular (clear?) piece inset into the lid, as this has a blade attached which is to cut the plastic "tube" when you want to empty the bin.

To empty the bin, twist the circular piece inset into the lid (mine doesn't work very well anymore, I often use a pair of scissors), then one the two clips on the sides of the bin and upend into a rubbish sack. Tie the now open end of the plastic bag tube, put the lid back onto the bin and do up the clips.

If any of this doesn't Make sense, let me know, I'll watch the thread.

Thank you for getting back to me. By the white ring part do you mean the casette? When I turn that the nappy just drops lower but it doesn't twist the plastic. I'm not sure how old this version is but when I lift the lid with the clear plastic top and the cutter there is just a yellow well for the cassette to go in and nothing else.

Ok, the cassette goes into that well, then tie a knot, put in a nappy, then twist it around a few times. It should take. I guess it could un-twist itself, but I'm not aware mine did this.

What you are describing certainly sounds the same as mine.

I'll empty it in the morning, and see what it does.
