we're off to buy an ikea bed and are tempted/ perplexed by the idea of a 'luxurious mattress pad' for our ultimate sleep experience

are they actually any good?

We had one for DS has he was a bed wetter, cheaper to replace and easier to clean, not very luxurious Grin.

Yes, we have this one \link{http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15558&catalogId=10103&storeId=2&langId=-11&parentCats=15558*15615&productId=41393\here}.
It is super comfy and supposed to make your mattress last longer. It does make a difference I feel, and you could probably get away with a cheaper mattress.

My parents got cheap Ikea m/p for their spare bed, which I'd always previously found terribly uncomfortable
Post-pad, I had something akin to 'the ultimate sleep experience'
Made it warmer, as well as more snuggly

Have one on our bed. Made a big difference to start with (mattress was already quite knackered then)- 5 years on I'm not feeling it, but we just need bite the bullet and save up for a whole new mattress really I guess.
