Safe 7 seater thats economical round town?

Hello,
Please can i have some advice on choosing a new car?
I have 4 kids and frqeuently drive around with an extra 2. If the Zafira rear seats are not safe due to being in the 'crumple zone' surely that goes for all the fold away seated cars?
So then I'm looking at the bigger 7 seaters that guzzle fuel. Please someone help me out here? Can I have my kids safe in the back AND be economical around town? I'm buying second hand by the way... Oh and a roadside recovery man I spoke to said he would NOT reccomend the Galaxy as he picks so many up.

Leoniedm, take a look at our 10 best seven-seaters as these include several large MPVs that claim good fuel returns. You can then check what mpg some of them do in real life by looking them up at whatcar.com/truempg/.
