as you were all so fantastic at finding cockerels for me :)

she does not want:
massage/ pampering day type stuff
bath stuff
ornaments
clothes
jewellery
food/ drink
videos
books
computer stuff

she likes birdwatching but has bird table, books on birds, binoculars and rspb membership

if you are still there any suggestions appreciated

rechargeable screwdriver, every time

Have just had exactly the same problem with my MIL who is 65 on saturday. Really liked the idea of naming a star for someone, but not her cup of tea! We eventually settled for a day trip on the Orient Express with champagne and lunch on board. Bit pricey at £160 each but am fairly confident she will enjoy swanning about in a Hyacinth Bouquet/Bucket style Grin.

a professional family photography session, or
a skydive voucher or
tickets to a concert or festival or
a night in a lovely hotel or
a brilliant book, or
a professional chef/caterer to cook dinner for the family/friends at home and clean up after.

Mine's 60 next month - really love the memory jar idea. Just need to find some time to make it!

Thought could make it even more of an experience by getting CD and chocs and putting all in a box for some 'me time' for her.

apronstrings · 25/05/2006 20:05

We made a dvd of the family and children for the brother who has everything at christmas - used the Apple ilife software. It turned out really well and he and his dp called us to say it was the best present they had ever had!! i wondered if they were being sarcastic to start with - but apparently not.

Sorry if its already been suggested - haven't read through

hewlettsdaughter · 25/05/2006 20:10

Does she have a digital camera? I and my siblings have just bought my mum one.

Babyannabell · 25/05/2006 20:18

A dovecote - you can get ones for one pair of doves or a lot more pairs

Cam · 25/05/2006 22:03

Really thrilled that some of you equate being 50 with being 60 or even 65 Shock

Think I'll just buy myself a rocking chair and a pair of comfy slippers Wink

SecondhandRose · 26/05/2006 07:35

Sorry to poo poo the dove thing but apparently they interbreed with pigeons and you end up with loads and they don't stay white. Washed a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingwatsit recently where he was shooting some off a roof as a bloke was so sick of them breeding so they were taking pot shots at all the ones that weren't white.

zippitippitoes · 26/05/2006 08:23

I'm with Cam on that one Grin

leggymamba · 28/05/2006 21:11

You can get some very old 50 year olds and some very young 60 year olds.

Age is only a number - being a grumpy old lady is a state of mind!

Sorry PMT - Grin
