DVD Recorder - any recommendations

The timer on my video no longer works and my cheapo dvd player is on its way out. I was thinking of buying a just a DVD recorder to replace them both. I have done a bit of research and seen a couple of ones for £80 in comet and Aldi. I have also seen a review saying that DVD recorders can be quite complicated to use. Has anyone got one that they would recommend to buy or avoid.

Does that mean that you can record onto discs as well or is that instead of?

As well as, you either just watch from HD then delete so you don't use discs, you can also edit out adverts before you save to disc. I think we have about 14 hours capacity on HD. I just tend to record a telly program watch then delete so I have never used discs.
