I've just got some cash back from my new mortgage which i'd forgotten I was going to get (£250) so I want to spend it on something specific that I wanted before it just gets absorbed!!

Anyone know of any good places/deals??

I'm tempted by the argos one as I can order it now, bit wary about the 28 days for delivery tho, did yours take that long?

Whatever you do, don't buy teak. Much of it is illegally logged and is destroying the rainforests of Indonesia and other places. Disastrous for the environment, the people who live there (increases likelihood of landslides etc) and animals like the orangutans.
I've seen it as first hand.
There are good alternatives, I think B and Q has a good record of buying from responsibly managed forests. Our grand children won't thank us for destroying the world's rainforests in order to have somewhere to park our bums in the summer!

(Apologies for eco rant, got quite carried away!)

we got \link{http://www.simplygardenfurniture.co.uk/BillyOh-Range/BillyOh-Bench-set;froogle\this}. Its lovely, very solid, and we're very pleased with it. Quite a bargain too, with all the bits included.

essbee · 12/05/2006 16:40

Don't apologise, Bluejelly, it's good to know these things. I had no idea!

Great link kelly, the one you have is a great price but slightly too pricey atm, they also have \link{http://www.simplygardenfurniture.co.uk/Keruing-Garden-Furniture-Sets/Napoli-Table-with-6-Bradford-Armchairs\this} at only £219. What do you think?

Just oing to have a peek at Next, thank s for that too.

Ooh The next one looks lovely but too dear to have 6 chairs with it, or even 4.

If you are bothered about the environmental sustainability of wooden garden furniture (sorry - that sounds really pompous but YKWIM Grin ), there's a section on the Greenpeace website which tells you who sells what. There's lots of stuff from Argos, Homebase & B&Q so it's not all expensive.

essbee · 12/05/2006 17:05

Oh really?? Tbh before bluejelly posted that I hadn't given it a thought Blush. I just love wooden things. I'll have a look now, I'd rather not buy anything from an unsustained place knowingly!! Thanks for that.

Unfortunately Ikea isn't mentioned at all - I'm looking for garden furniture too & they've got a lovely wooden bench (Applaro, about £45 - have a look). Ethical crisis coming up!! Grin

essbee · 12/05/2006 17:15

Sigh.. you had to mention ikea, I used to live 15/20 mins away!!! sniff! At £45 i'd be questioning it too btw WinkSmile

I can;t find the list of brands, just a list of types of wood to avoid.

Do you have a link please?

OP posts:
essbee · 12/05/2006 17:17

The type of wood from that set doesn't seem to be listed either, does that mean it's ok?

OP posts:
scampadoodle · 12/05/2006 17:24

The Ikea bench (sorry essbee!) is:
\link{http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=16708&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=12767&langId=-20&parentCats=167081680316806\this}

and the Greenpeace site:

Oops!

essbee · 12/05/2006 17:29

looks lovely! I wonder whether I get get up to Bristol soon..... (apparently my nearest now), it mentions the environmental bit at the bottom of the ikea thing btw, did you see? Seems to be ok.

Looking at greenpeace now via the oven as my kids are hungry... Grin

All IKEA wood is taken from managed forests, so no worries there.

It's a pity that you can't get a store Essbee 'cos the range is really nice this tear

serenity · 12/05/2006 17:33

or year

IKEA does pride itself on trying to be environmentally friendly, and not exploitating overseas workers. Croydon IKEA is currently trying to get permission to erect a wind generator on the roof, but I think Croydon Council are being a bit wary.

essbee · 12/05/2006 17:43

That's a really useful guide! It's a same (but understandable) that it can't list some of the smaller stores (like the one i'm thinking of buying!!)

Serenity - you really do not need to sel ikea to me Wink

OP posts:
serenity · 12/05/2006 17:55

Can't help it, we're brainwashed at induction...... Grin

Kelly1978 · 12/05/2006 18:16

I looked at the ones in Ikea and though they look nice, I thought they looked a bit flimsy. I stayed away from folding tables for that reason too. We sat on some in B&Q and Focus and they didn't seem up to kids climbing all over them. I do like that other link tho. The only thing is that it gets very pricey if you need the cushions and parasol too.

Kelly1978 · 12/05/2006 18:17

Wonder y on earth croydon council would be wary of a wind generator, it's hardly an area of outstanding beauty is it! I used to be able to see the ikea towers from my kitcehn window. Grin

we have an argos set came in 2 days

serenity · 13/05/2006 16:57

They don't like IKEA very much, something to do with the rebuild I think.

Argos delivery is pretty good, ours always comes at 7.30am on the day it's due.

essbee · 13/05/2006 17:29

I've just ordered \link{http://www.simplygardenfurniture.co.uk/Keruing-Garden-Furniture-Sets/Napoli-Table-with-6-Bradford-Armchairs\this} one Smile
