Best way to pay "cash" for a car

Looking at spending about £10k. Do people still pay with a building society cheque or do a bank transfer?

Ideally I'd like to agree the purchase, go away arrange insurance etc, come back and hand over the money/cheque and drive the car away. No opportunity for the dealer to go bust or anything.

Anyone know?

Thanks

The last couple of cars I've bought the dealer has wanted payment by debit card. Very straight forward indeed.

So could you drive it away Gales?

It does sound easier to pay for it with a card and as long as the money is in there I imagine it will be hassle free.

Thanks for the reply. Last car I bought was over 10 years ago!
