Large sized party bags

Does anyone know if you can get such a thing as large party bags? Would need them to be A4-ish in size. The alternative would be to wrap the stuff for dd's party but I don't relish the thought of wrapping 26 parcels if I can just bung the stuff into bags instead!

from a friend's party recently dd brought home a huge plain brown paper bag which her friend had decorated with her name... was really lovely and personal

I'm really into the idea of party-bag avoidance and I'd love to hear some other ideas. the other day dd went to a party and was presented with a tiny tin, size of a lipgloss tin, wrapped in pink tissue paper and glitter

she was delighted with it.... and no rubbery worms or nothing

I've got books instead of party bags, but would like to give them in bags rather than wrap them - I wonder where I could get hold of a couple of dozen brown paper bags? They don't seem to be very easy to get hold of these days but decorating them sounds like a lovely idea.

dunno where she got them... if t'were me I'd probably ask at an independent shop which used them, grocers or somewhere like that

Cappucino · 08/05/2006 10:41

books lovely idea though Smile

I might see if I can get some from the local greengrocer - thanks for the suggestion.

I've got a stack of books from The Book People, it hasn't cost much more than plastic crap for party bags would have done, and is at least something that will last. I hate the idea of party bags but can't quite bring myself not to do anything at all!

How about \link{http://www.carrierbagshop.co.uk/product/carrierbagshop/paper_bags/PB004/Block+Bottom+Brown+Kraft+Bags.htm\these}? You have to buy 100, but they still only cost £6.95.

Gingerbear · 08/05/2006 10:47

WWB, what about A4 sized brown envelopes, decorated with stickers?

Gingerbear · 08/05/2006 10:49

Or a stash of brown takeaway carriers with string handles from a coffee shop?

WigWamBam · 08/05/2006 10:50

Ahh, Jackieno, they could be just right ...

But quite why I didn't think of A4 envelopes is another question, gingerbear (duh!)

Thank you!

Ohh ... look at \link{http://www.carrierbagshop.co.uk/product/carrierbagshop/paper_carriers_twist/PCT015/Seventies+Design+Paper+Carrier+Bags.htm\these} from JackieNo's link ... do you think the kids would think I'd lost my marbles??

And at least with envelopes rather than those bags you don't have to work out what to do with the remining 74Grin.

JackieNo · 08/05/2006 10:53

Ooh - didn't see those - they're very funky.

Gingerbear · 08/05/2006 10:55

JackieNo, what a great site- the fancy carriers are just right for gift bags, and musch cheaper than card shops!

JackieNo · 08/05/2006 10:57

I just googled and found them - haven't used them, so no idea if they're as good as they sound. Will be bookmarking them though!

I got some large party bags at John Lewis about a year ago if the paper bag thing doesn't work out.

WigWamBam · 08/05/2006 11:35

Ah, so someone must make them then ... our nearest John Lewis isn't too difficult to get to, wonder whether it would be worth a trip? Mmmmm ...

Thank you!

We got \link{http://www.partybox.co.uk/catalogue.asp?pageid=255\these } in blue for ds' party. Not sure if they are quite as big as you need though. Delivery was really quick too.

neena28 · 08/05/2006 11:37

Phone john lewis first. we had some baby stuff from them and they are so helpful on their phone line. Will even tell you exactly what the sizes/prices are and will tell you were it is on their website if poss. Bet if you phone someone will go and have a good lookm and call you back.

They have the best customer service I know.

WigWamBam · 08/05/2006 11:37

Oh ... thank you, those would be ideal, I'm sure the books and bits would fit in there ...

Spoilt for choice now Grin
