It's in perfect condition and a bargain but I didn't check that it came from a smoke free home and it's stinks of smoke. Lifted my baby out of it today and his gorgeous white babygro was smelling of smoke. Yeuch! Can I wash in dishwasher? Have no instructions of box so none the wiser..have scrubbed it and used Fabreze to no avail. Thanks for your help!

eeewww yuk - poor you. i don't see why you couldn't put in the dishwasher. i would. it's not like it's going to melt is it?

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 01/05/2006 10:47

I think I'd give it a go if scrubbing it hasn't done any good. How annoying, it must be horrible. What have you got to lose, you won't use it if you can't get the smoke smell off will you?

winniewoo · 01/05/2006 10:53

Thought about selling it back on Ebay and getting another one but I couldn't bear the thought of another Mum having it! Also they would think the smell came from my home!! Will chuck in dishwasher now..thanks..

Just contact the seller and tell them it stinks of smoke and you want your money back. It's not acceptable in a children's item (well it's not acceptable in any item, but even less so in this).

ooo ... eek

I wouldn't put it in a dishwasher to be honest

I'd put it in a big basing of bleach and water then wash it with soapy water .. rinse really well and leave it in garden .. then see if it smells

Laura032004 · 01/05/2006 13:01

I'd go with contacting the buyer. Maybe if they smoke, they didn't realise how bad it was. It's very annoying though - I made the same mistake with a wetsuit for DS. After a week on the washing line it still stank, so I asked for a refund, and got one.

Otherwise, can't think that a dishwasher would do any more than you could by hand.

Try soaking it in Zoflora disinfectant, it's an old fashioned one which you dilut but maybe you could make it up very strong. They do lots of different scents.

winniewoo · 01/05/2006 21:39

Washed in bleach..put in dishwasher and split it in two places. (Just little rips). Does smell a bit better..will try Zoflora next. The bumbo is perfect apart from smell and I am such a wimp when it comes to confronting issues! So will give Zoflora a try and if not then will return to sender. Thanks for help

i scrubbed my mums very smelly cool box with a mixture of water and baking soda (not sure if its supposed to work diluted but it was worth a go) then left it for several hours with dry baking soda in and it sorted it out. it also changed colour when i washed it from bright yellow to almost white! (in their defence they hadnt used it for 3 or 4 years and it was sat in the smokiest room of the house)

winniewoo · 01/05/2006 21:46

Thanks GG..will give that a try too!

they are made of foam like stuff so i guess the stink would have permiated it, iykwim and if that's spelt correctly! i dont think you'll ever get rid of the smell totally. i will go see what it says on my bumbo box....
:)

1Baby1Bump · 01/05/2006 21:55

the box says nothing about cleaning or care but the website says it is made of low density foam. maybe you could email them if your next try doesnt work and see what they suggest as they should know something about the material its made off.
