Smax or V70

I'm hoping someone can help the MTB household make a decision...

We're looking at new cars and I think we have finally narrowed it down to either a Ford Smax or a Volvo V70.

Can anyone give some plus and minuses about both cars? We'd not be purchasing new, but probably a 2008/9 model...

Oh font of great wisdom - what do you think?

Meant to add as the name suggests we're a family of mountain bikers so something that can fit 2 Adults and their bikes, a toddler and hers (and child seat) and possibly another baby (either on the way or will hopefully be shortly)

We mainly pootle around local roads but do occasionally have the need for a 6/7 hour drive to the in laws and exotic holidays in Scotland and Wales :-)
