Are these big irons all they are cracked up to be ? The expensive ones - with the "base station".
I need to replace my old - clapped out one and was thinking about an all-singing-all-dancing one?
Anyone got one please ?

Um... what's an iron?

I got my morphy richards one from e-bay over a year ago for about £70 (with a descaler as we are in London) and it is great! I'd find it really hard going back to 'orinary' irons now.

I've got a Polti, it was about £160 and it is fantastic. Like sis, I couldn't go back to an ordinary iron now. All the best with the auction.

I bought a new ordiary one recently. Just a quick tip if anyone's going to buy one that isn't one of those big ones, don't get one with a safety cut out, at least not from M&S. It just kept turning itself off, it was so annoying!!! I bought an ordinary one from John Lewis, somewhere in the middle of the price bracket and its fine so far. Must confess though that I don't do my own ironing as daytime babysitter does it all when baby is asleep
