Anyone had trouble with xbox 360?

We got one at christmas off Game online. It has been fine but now keeps crashing. First of all the ring of light went red, now it stays green but the game crashes after a few seconds. It says on all the forums to phone the microsoft helpline, which I haven't done yet. I hate ringing those places. But anyway, if something is wrong that needs me to call the helpline, would I not be entitled to exchange it anyway? We have only had it since December. Surely I should just be able to go to Game and get another one? It cost over £200 anyway fool that I am!

My DH works in computer game manufacturing and he says you should either send an email to Game or ring their customer service line, you can get the phone number off the website. He reckons it's probably the operating system version ??? Makes no sense to me but there we are! He also says there might be some trouble-shooting info on the xbox website.

Goldfish, just spoke to dh as I also have no idea about xbox's. Apparently there is a known problem on the 1st generation xbox's which is what yours is.Luckily dh's seems to be fine as his is also a 1st generation one.

You are entitled to take it to game and to get it replaced as it's a known fault and something microsoft and game are aware of.

DH thinks the problem is due to the power supply overheating but is not 100% sure.

Thanks for your replies. I did phone Game and they reluctantly said I could return it, but weren't very willing, normally they are really good. I phoned the xbox helpline and they were really helpful. They asked a few questions, then said it was a hardware failure. They then said they would send a courier to collect it and replace it with a new one, so hopefully it will all be ok. I wish I hadn't bought one in a way. I don't noramlly buy consoles when they are just out, I have told the kids there is no way they are having a ps3.
