Ebay Baby Einstein DVD sets - rip off or genuine? Esp the 'Chinese' version

We want to buy DS a set of Baby Einstein DVD's off ebay. Has anyone bought one of these and what was the quality like? The ones that have 'some Chinese characters but all sound is in English' are usually much cheaper than the others that state specifically that they are not the cheap chinese types! ALso, are the sets that are american ok to play on UK DVD players? TIA

I personally don't think they are worth the money - but having said that ds will watch the Animals one on an endless loop given half a chance....

Anything on Ebay's a rip off.

Holymoly321 · 18/04/2006 14:49

We already have the Baby Mozart one and it cost us £18 so to get 18 DVD's for around £30 seems pretty reasonable - but only if they work! DS loves the MOzart one so we want to give him a choice of others - besides, I can't bear the sound of it anymore!

Can't speak specifically about ebay, but we have bought the Chinese box set from elsewhere on the internet (trying to bring up bilingual children) and they are of equal quality to those previously bought in Mothercare. Hope this is of use.

busybusybee · 19/04/2006 20:50

I think 18 for £30 sounds too good to be true and is therefore probably a rip off

Anyway why would you want 18!!!

There are lots of other vaguely educational videos/dvds available for much much less in your local charity shop - I can guarantee it!

Holymoly321 · 19/04/2006 21:01

MEggymoose,
Could you tell me if the dvd's are in english with an option to play them in Chinese? I mean the Baby Mozart one we have already just has music anyway - no actual speaking on it.

Just found out from DH that we bought ours from ebay after all - shows how much I know. Apparently they all have English on but not all have Chinese.

piximon · 21/04/2006 12:25

We bought a set and ours are obvious copies. Some didn't work although the seller sent replacements.
They also have the titles of other (adult) films around the edge if you look closely).
The packaging was a bit rubbish too.

shoobaloo · 23/04/2006 08:01

I'm also interested in hearing more about these sets...

My PIL bought a set on ebay for my ds. They have 3 language choices - English, and then what looks like two arabic scripts. The dvds and the packaging all look authentic, and most of them play perfectly. A couple have glitchy bits (although that could well be caused by ds independently putting them in and out with sticky fingers....) but on the whole are fine.

yackertyyack · 24/04/2006 11:59

We bought a box set of these from ebay and I have to say that they have been fine, we haven't had any problems! There is a choice of languages at the start of the DVD and to be honest it is mainly music rather than talking anyway!! For the amount of times we have used them it was well worth buying them from ebay rather than mothercare!!! A friend did start moaning that one of her DVDs was in german - it turns out that this is part of the DVD!!!Grin
