we're considering it and wondered if any mumsnetters have one and their thoughts of it - how it drives, noise when going over speed bumps, the dealers, value for money, etc.

we test drove one this morning and i love it - love the seating system and the sliding doors. have read reviews in Parkers and what car.

should we get it??

Just saw your post, blossom2. Haven't got one but saw one in a showroom today. Really liked the use of space. Planning to test drive on Monday. What size engine did you try?

This was in our final choice betweeen toyota verso..We ended up with the verso. Exactly the same as the mazda except for the sliding door. The toyota seemed nicer to look inside and also we got a vvvvv good deal with Toyota.

I would suggest also looking at Toyota as you will be surprised. We were!!

jalopy, we tried the 1.8 petrol, TS version. we're thinking of the 2.0 petrol sport. it was nice and DH liked it. smooth and responsive and it doesnt look too much like a bus. its a shame they dont do the seats in leather .... Smile

blossom2..another thought, have you seen the ford s max..? Due for release in June. Meant to kick as*..!! In all reviews it's come tops, above renault, vauxhall etc.

May be worth waiting a little longer to compare.? Unless you are like me and see a car and want it NOW..!!!

blossom2 · 17/04/2006 08:55

i'm like you Shhhh, see a car and want it NOW Smile!!

we looked but didnt test drive the C Max. was put off by the lack of seats - only a 5 seater with loads of boot space. also Clarkson ranked the mazda as top for MPV's, Honda second, C max second and vauxhall fourth .... although why i'm listening to clarkson, i dont know!

have been looking at the toyota from your recommendation on the web. we're not keen on the diesals though and the petrol engines dont seem to be as good or have as much 'gear' ... which one have you gone for??

the verson we have is the 1.8 t3 and it's v nippy and smooth. The ford I suggested is not the c max BUT the s max..not due out till june though. According to the reviews in the times it's meant to be v good. In fact even the notw gave it a good review! The s max will also be a 7 seater and it's competitor is meant to be the merc R class (i think) although the s max will be half the price but just as good. Although our Toyota verso is a year in sept dh has suggested we look at the S max come june.....

SHHHH · 17/04/2006 13:53

sorry meant to say: The Toyota Verso we have

Well, we had a try in the Mazda5 1.8. Nice drive but we found the interior quite cramped for our needs. We've got 3 kids (6,9 & 12) and had problems with the seating arrangement. The middle seat is only a 'half' seat so we would have to use one of the back seats most of the time. That would mean the luggage space is reduced. We also found that the headrest of the back seat can only be fully extended upwards or has to be completely down. Our youngest found she couldn't rest her head back in either position, she found it really uncomfortable. Never mind, the research continues...

it does look and sound great but the basic model is above our budget, unfortunately.

hence the mazda really!!
