What's the best car Sat Nav system ?

Thinking of buying DH one - any recommendations ??

I bought DH one for Christmas and he loves it, I can't remember the name of it but there was the one I bought and the Tom Tom that came highly reccommended. I can't believe I have forgotten the name how bloody stupid of me.

When Dh gets in from work I will get the name off him unless someone a bit more helpfull comes along.

Also my brother who is getting one soon has been trying todecide between the one I bought or the Tom Tom and he said the Tom Tom has got a couple of £100 pounds off it at the moment in Halford so he will probably get that one.

It always comes down to money.!!

There seems to be quite a few Tom Tom models though...?

OK we have a Garmin I just remembered this thread today whilst doing the washing up!!!! I will without fail find out the type it is.

Certain things you want to look for are - touch screen, a proper mount for in the car that you can take it on and off, a good range of volume and the facility to search for local things such as nearest chinese food nearest sainsbury etc.

There are loads of extras you can get such as speed camera alert and european mapping, I believe we ca download these but some of them now come with them.

I will try and find out which model ours is and answer any further ? you have, but, Halfords really were fantastic when I was trying to choose at Christmas gave me demos of all of them.

We've got a friend who has the Navman icn520 and it's fab,so much so that I'm trying to get hold of one for us,but it's prooving a difficult task as it's actually being discontinued,in order to make way for newer models.It even has speed camera's on there which is handy.

Thanks all in the end I have got DH to have a look at them all & to work out what functions he needs most !
