Who do I claim off, Window Company & Insurance says we can't claim off them

We had new windows put in about 2-3 years ago, and this morning I opened the curtains to find that there is a MASSIVE crack from one side of the window to the other on the inside pain.

I have phoned the window suppliers and they have said that only the frames are covered for 10 years and that I need to claim through the house insurance.

I have phoned the house insurance and they have said that because I have no idea what has happened and because I cannot give a reason as to why it is cracked then I won't be able to claim.

Can anyone help with this matter please, or give me some advice.

TIA

I would ask the window co to send their T&Cs - this happened to my mum the roof panels of her conservatory blew and the window co replaced them

i would say, that you should be claiming on your buildings insurance, as opposed to contents.

or lie to insurance co... Shock.
Say you were looking out of the window when a bird flew into it...Shock...Shock...Hence the crack.

What are the insurance company on?

It could have happened while you were out or anything - how the hell are you supposed to know what happened?

Oh hang on, sorry, I forgot. Insurance law states that you must never leave your house, sleep or stop paying attention to your possesions for more than 30 secs or you are not covered.

LOL, Shhh, too late, I've already called them, AND, the crack is on the inside pain.

Insurance companies make my blood boil sometimes.

How about -

you have just found your pet parrot concussed in the corner of the living room and therefore conclude that he flew into it during the night.

That might do it.

LOL........I am currently rofl..!!! Grin.

daisy1999 · 11/04/2006 14:15

after you speak to your dh he might remember hitting the inside with the decorating step ladder! That's covered if you've got accidental damage cover.

Radley · 11/04/2006 14:32

Hmmmm I may just do that, but, would they beleive me?

How long was the guarantee on the double glazing unit itself for? It's usually for 5 years, and this sounds like a fault in the glass itself. Find out more about your guarantee and don't let the window company wriggle out of it.
