Muzzy language tapes

I received a brochure through the post today for a DVD and CD-Rom language course for children called MUZZY. It is a BBC language course and I am tempted to get it as the sooner my dd learns another language the easier it will be for her. But before I pay the dosh (over £250 for Level 1 and 2) I was just wondering if anyone on mumsnet had bought them and had any feedback they could give me?

I bought them for my ds and didn't like them. I don't think they are particualrly good quality and there isn't enough interaction, or much information on how to use it IYKWIM.

I personally don't think it's worth the money. IMO there is much better stuff out there, much cheaper.

Check out

have a look at linguatots they've got some good stuff. HTH

We got them recently for ds (being foolishly encouraged by him picking up counting 1-4 in Spanish via Dora the Explorer). They're not bad, and he does seem to enjoy them (only played through twice so far though, so obviously early days yet). Not sure if they're worth £250 ... will reserve judgement 'til later! We only got level 1 to see if he liked them.

Might be worth rooting around on Ebay and seeing if you can get a second hand set for cheaper?

Thanks for that link Stupidgirl. I've also been wondering about Muzzy (we live in a German, sort of!, speaking area) but will peruse that site later as the stuff looks more appropriate for us.

Great website Stupidgirl. Thanks for the link.

Stupidgirl, thanks so much for this link. The products here look great and much better value than risking all that money on a course.

Shame to hear that in your opinion it wasn't up to much - I would expect better from the BBC.

Want to add my thanks as well. I've been thinking about Muzzy as well but I've ordered two videos from linguatots instead. I'll see how ds1 gets on with these before forking out £250+

Haven't experienced Muzzy myself, but they use it in dds' school, in reception to help with the Welsh (they go to a Welsh medium school in an almost completely non-Welsh speaking part of Wales). However, I don't know if it's a recommendation, as I suppose once the school bought it, it couldn't afford anything different. The girls both seem to enjoy it (especially as one of the characters in the Welsh version has the same name as dd2)
