I am thinking of painting our yet to be built conservatory and what a bit of advice.

It will go onto our kitchen which currently is BRIGHT BRIGHT blue with cream shaker units, black grantite worktops and stainless steel range. We are looking at \link{http://www.cotswoldco.com/product_info.php?dpi=C050&product=SEARCH&cele=1&SH=DADBDADDDADADDDGGEGFGBDDDFDFDFDBCNDFGBDBGFCNDEDEDIDBCNGCGGGEDJCNGDGEDHDBDDGEDCGCGBDJGEDJDADADADBDCDADADADHGNGBGMGBGCGBHCDADADADEDADADADADADADADBDFDADADADBDADADADADADADADADADADADADBDADADADADHGNGBGMGBGCGBHCDADADADBDB\sofa} here, with chocolate cushions, limestoney tiled floor, and it is brown wood (to match other wood in house).

So I want a colour that will look great with the brown, and then perhaps paint the same in teh kitchen.

What I need to know is how good Farrow & Ball paints are, and are they durable? Also ha anyone used Blue Ground? \link{http://www.farrow-ball.com/main.php?terr=uk\here} Looks nicer on paint chart, a sort of chalky but rich aqua/sky blue.

Also what do you think of teh combo??

i know several people who only use / buy F&B paint.... (people who ive worked for)

It all looks very nce etc.... but the painter told me while painting that he hates painting with Farrow and ball, and wishes they would get the excat colour match in one of those colour match things in B&Q and get it in Dulux cause he said that was much easier to apply and looked identical (+ was about half the price!)

Hazellnut · 06/04/2006 19:37

We have used farrow and ball throughout and would now not use anything else if poss. We find it so much easier to go on and the colours are great. Def worth it imo.

twocatsonthebed · 06/04/2006 19:39

Farrow and Ball now do a washable kitchen paint, (modern emulsion? something like that) which sounds like it's what you need - we used it in our kitchen and the effect is great - people comment on how nice it looks. And it seems to be durable so far...

You can duplicate the colours, but I never think it looks as good - Dulux always looks a bit chemically to me (I used to work in decorating tv, so saw a lot of paint!).

Colours sound great, really lovely

BingoStingo · 06/04/2006 19:40

ponce alert

crunchie · 06/04/2006 19:56

Total ponce I agree, BUT you try to find a blue paint that is 'warm' IYKWIM

I don't want yellow, I don't DO neutals, DD1 was cheery red (bt we have that in our bedrooms) Green paint is usually vile (except teh F&B colours)

So I am going to ponce around all I like, It's my bleeding kicthen and I'll ponce if I want to :)

Farrow and Ball is magic! It goes a long way, goes on great - I'd recommend it even if it is a bit pricey.

Blue Ground is a lovely colour too. I have Green Blue on my front door (useless info I know!)

Piffle · 06/04/2006 20:07

It's beautiful quality paint, also can recommend Laura Ashley paint their eau de mil is FABULOUS!

busybusybee · 06/04/2006 20:13

I would love to paint my walls with Farrow and Ball paint, is it really double the cost of Dulux?

I have a feeling I cant afford it Blush

crunchie · 06/04/2006 20:14

Eau de MIL :) what colour is that?? bile coloured???? or do you suggest I paint my walls with my MIL blood :o Tempting :)

Eau de NIL is pale green, which I am sorry I cannot stand. It is green and it is pale. :) I ike colour :)

bbbee, it is £42.99 for 5 L. I would need 3 pots at least :) But hwat is that when you are spending £15K on a conservatory!! {guilty face}

I've got ballroom blue in my front hall Crunchie and it has lasted about 15 years and still looks good.

RosieL · 12/04/2006 14:54

I bought paint from bedroominabox childrens soft furnishings, nice matt finish v. high quality and apparently they do paint that smells of lemon until it dries! you can get soft furnishings etc specially made up too. Rosie :)

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 14:59

crunchie my local hardware store mixed F&B colours in Johnson's paint ie same price as dulux. If you can find a local johnson's stockist just ask if they have the F&B codes. There was a hoo haa over this a while ago and Johnsons can no longer make them but they can't stop the stockists who already have the codes mixing them.

People will bollocks on about the pigment etc being different but you really can't tell the diff unless you are a total major numero uno ponce Grin

Enid · 12/04/2006 15:02

I think they are totally worth it

the mixed 'fake' ones don't have the same depth of colour and also farrow and ball colours change depending on the light.

any decorator we have ever had says they love working with farrow and ball (good coverage)

chinese blue is beautiful btw

Enid · 12/04/2006 15:03

god I am such a ponce though

but I can always tell and am a paint snob

Enid · 12/04/2006 15:03

The Paint Library also very good for colours and quality

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 15:04

well i have both in my house and they look the same

Enid · 12/04/2006 15:05

I bet they dont Grin

CountessDracula · 12/04/2006 15:07

Our decorator asked if the fire surround was F&B and it was johnsons so ner

Blackened is gorgeous - and nothing like the web page. it is a very pale slatey greyish blue (the web page looks a bit green to me). We have it in our bedroom with blue and brown and I adore it.

HandbagAddiction · 12/04/2006 15:18

I love F&B colours but I actually think the paint quality is crap! Sorry!! This is the only paint that we have had to do 3 coats for as it has gone on unevenly and patchy....and I kid you not, it's not down to our painting skills as I have painted a lot of rooms in my time!!

It wasn't even down to the state of the walls as they were freshly plastered and have been primed /undercoated with at least two coats of white to 'seal' the plaster.

DH won't let me buy any more F&B paint now!! Sad

DaddyCool · 12/04/2006 15:22

farrow and ball is a big competitor for our shop at home. it's def good stuff.

as a man who knows paint, it's always worth paying for the good stuff. you tend to get what you pay for. it's not just the durabilty but the application.

Piffle · 12/04/2006 15:26

our eau de nil is not green it is a delightful almost but only barely there blue.

bundle · 12/04/2006 15:27

i saw an aircraft at the RAF museum in hendon that was most definitely eau de nil
