why won't my new digital camera work URGENT!!!!

I bought a new Samsung camera on Sunday and it starts up, says low battery and then shuts down again!! And yes, I have put fresh batteries in - twice.

The baby is due any day and we obviously want the camera for the hospital. probably I'll have to take it back to the shop, but does anybody know what could be wrong??

nope - woman in shop said camera came without batteries so I bought some, but when I opened it there were Duracell ones supplied. Thought maybe they'd been in the box for years but when I tested them they were fine, but swapped them anyway for the ones I'd bought.

I just know it. I've bought a dud.

dh says a friend had similar problem & camera only worked when he used duracell.
otherwise contact samsung.

Spose I could get another lot of Duracell in there, I've got loads left over from Christmas.

I just get so Angry when things like this happen. It would have to be me. I bought one that was more expensive than I would usually go for because I thought dearer would be better...

Can you see whether the batteries are drained? Alkaline batteries don't last very long in a digital camera.

yes those Duracell ones had a funny tester thing on the side that seemed to suggest they were working.

Sod it. Will try to use the leftover Xmas ones and if they don't work will haul my vast walrus-shaped persona to the shop tomorrow and demand a replacement.

dont know if this is relevant, but some cameras are very fussy about the batteries they take!!! i know that our camera will not work with ordinary batteries, they take ones specifically made for digital cameras which are available from jessops. hope this helps?

caffeine - didn't even know you could get special ones which probably shows what a technopeasant I am. Have heard of Jessops but don't think there's one round here. D'you think Dixons would do them?

There is something to do with how the batteries are drained (how the current is drawn?) that means that normal batteries are rubbish. We were told to always use rechargeables.

Right. So tomorrow am going to get some rechargeable ones. Having said that, DD has had a fiddle and put new Duracells in and it seems to be working Shock

Which means a) tomorrow I can take those eBay pictures I have been meaning to take for about six months and finally get shot of loads of stuff unless b) these funny pains I have been having every ten minutes or so don't suddenly get a lot worse..... Wink
