My stepson loves Harry Potter and his mum is reading him the fourth one now, so he can cope with quite advanced stuff. Has just about grown out of superheros too - thank god. Can anyone recommend a good read or just one with great pictures?

My ds (also 6) likes Roald Dahl and also the 'Horrid Henry' books. He's also obsessed with football so his favourite read is old football programmes from matches he's been too. Maybe your sepson would enjoy reading non-fiction books about something he's interested in.

this thread has loads of suggestions.

My ds1 (also 6) has just read HP4 himself. His current favourite authors are Michael Morpurgo, Jenny Nimmo, Caroline Lawrence, Lemony Snicket, Marcus Sedgwick, Robert Westall, William Nicholson, E B White, J R R Tolkein, Dorothy Edwards ...

Today he is gripped by Alice in Wonderland - which surprised me, as I never enjoyed that myself. There are loads of fantastic contemporary children's authors out there. The choice is immense.
