Demented · 29/12/2003 20:41

No, no, no, arrrgh, do you know if they are discontinuing Greenwich? I think it came out about the same time as the Boston.

Bozza · 30/12/2003 11:33

We've got Greenwich too (isn't it like Boston only green instead of blue?). Surely it can't be going? I'm sure I requested to be on a mailing list to be informed of anything like this. But we have moved.....

Anyone know if they still do the Harlequin? We broke a couple of plates recently

LIZS · 30/12/2003 11:51

The fact that they are discontinuing all these makes me feel really old - I was working in a China Buying dept when they were launched, but suppose that is over 10 years ago ! I have original samples of Harlequin oven dishes but sadly one got broken a few years back. Thought it had already been discontinued though.

Places like Allders and JLP used to buy up ends of ranges/seconds and sell them during sale periods so may be worth checking out. Otherwise you are into China Matching services and we had mixed success over our Wedding Royal Doulton set but did get a few bargains in subsequent sales.

Bozza · 30/12/2003 12:05

Coddie I've been on the site and couldn't find anything that said that Boston (or Greenwich or Harlequin) was going. Where did you get the information from? I didn't find the website that helpful. Will go back on though and re-register I think.

codswallop · 30/12/2003 12:45

they sent me a letter on the 24th

I registered a while ago

Does the letter then give notice of discontinuation ? As far as I remember they used to give you a year or more's notice of it going out of production but if you look at the website they still have stock of some ranges taken out of production several years ago and one which will cease at end Jan.

Retailers may still continue to stock it during part or all of this period although the range is likely to become increasingly fragmented in stores and demand has presumably already fallen away. Some larger pieces are not produced very often (couple of times a year) and that leaves little room for losses due to imperfections or seconds. Basically it would be easiest to complete your set now (and may be a couple of spares if used often), before it goes out of production, but you may still find the odd pieces afterwards.

I was trying to look at the website last night but it doesn't seem to be working properly, I'm sure I registered with them as well, ah well I'll keep trying.

CountessDingDongDrac · 30/12/2003 17:16

oh no coddy, will bin it all tomorrow!

miriamw · 30/12/2003 17:26

Ebay isn't too bad for getting discontinued bits and pieces - I seem to be missing several Marrakesh jugs and ds1 broke the butter dish a couple of days ago...

CountessDingDongDrac · 30/12/2003 17:31

yes I looked on there but they only had jug and sugar bowl or a whole set. Will keep looking
