Hi I'm just embarking on a new healthy eating weight loss plan and these seem to be advocated by loads of the low carb and low gi diets like dukan, harcombe, Atkins etc. but interestingly they are also a well known health product for anything from diabeties to heart disease and with zero calories, zero carbs, zero fats etc. they really do see to be a miracle?!
They are a traditional Japanese noodle also known as shirataki and are made from plant fibre. I have researched intensively even checking food standards websites for uk, us and Canada and there don't seem to be any downsides at all. The only negative (apart from price lol) is about them smelling fishy when they are dry but this is apparently meant to disappear once they are rinsed well and cooked - has anyone tried them, how bad is the smell, do they taste fishy once cooked as I know I will bawk if they are very fishy tasting or like spirulina or seaweed?
