What about some lesson vouchers where he can try out a number of different clubs with a club pro. He will then be able to decide which type he likes. When is his b'day as purchasing the club may be ideal for the next gift after he has used the lessons.

My dh is MAD about golf. If your dh wants to play a whole round he'll need a whole set including irons, putters and drivers. I warn you it's a minefield and very expensive!

7 iron would be the best starter club.

Some beginners lessons would be the best thing. A club pro would be able to provide some clubs for DH to try out and then he can decide whether or not he wants to take it up.

WARNING - its expensive in the cost of equipment, fees, time ( a round every saturday means you lose him till late afternoon ), demands for golfing holidays.

you can get a really cheap set in donnays/lillywhites for £100 but won't last long if he gets serious about it (and it is very addictive). may be better off looking at a second hand set.

this will be one of those sacrifices I will need to make when the baby comes along .

word of warning - a round of golf takes at least 4 hours for 18 holes!!

joolee · 20/12/2003 18:27

oh and if he takes lessons then a 7 iron is usually chucked in for free!
