Help needed with stairgate please!!

We got a second hand pressure fit stairgate yesterday to go in dd's room. Never had one before and haven't got the instructions. 'Tis fine when it's closed but not as sturdy when it's open. (In comparison with our screw in the wall one). Is this normal for pressure fit gates and do we just need to keep it closed all of the time? It's only to keep dd in her bedroom when she goes into a big bed.

Thanks.

You may be able to get cups to attach to wall to help stabilise it (which make is it , most come from Babydan if they are Mothercare, Ikea et al and they can send out spares) . Make sure the bottom is as tight as possible too but they are at their most stable closed.

Thank you Lizs, just wanted reassurance that this was normal for pressure fit stairgates. I think it is a safety first one so might see if I can get hold of some of those cup things.

yeah ours is like this.. is it one that closes directly onto the wall?

we also have a lindam one that has a gate in the middle which is much sturdier when open
