Haggling down price of second hand car ?

It's a long while since I bought a car from a dealer (we're talking second hand cars here).

How much flexibility can I expect there to be in the £15-£20k price bracket.

I will probably trade in my old car which is worth about £2,500 so if the car I'm interested is priced on the forecourt at £17,500 how far (if at all) should I be able to haggle the initial net difference of £15,000 down to ?

Depends on the car. what are you after?

Remember its the total price that matters, not just the PX. Research prices well beforehand from a number of sources and, if possible, Glass's guide, which is the industry bible.
Read up about faults and be fussy - a small scratch could be worth a few quid off etc.
Also consider the car. Is a new or revised model coming out soon as this will reduce used prices.

Good luck
