Which car?

SweetBabyJebus · 11/08/2012 11:28

Need a new (to us) car.

Considering a Citizen Xara Picasso and a Renault Megane Scenic.

Any opinions?

We need the space for 3 carseats and boot room, as well as usual safety concerns etc. Budget is incredibly tight - under 2k. Never had either of these cars, neither has anyone I know, so ideally looking for first hand experiences. Or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Sorry, wouldn't have a French car thrown at me. But if I really had no choice, then the Citroën.

ENormaSnob · 11/08/2012 11:32

Neither tbh but especially not the Renault.

We had numerous issues with the grand Picasso. An older original one may be better. The newer ones are a heap of shit.

Our scenic costs fortune to Fix anything but the bloke at the garage said that's true of French cars not just Renault.

NagooingForGold · 11/08/2012 11:33

Not the fucking Megane.

Driving to nursery I did 399MPG at 999mph average speed. The 2 minute drive added 20 000 miles to the clock.

They accept it is a common fault, and as such will only charge me £150 to replace the dashboard console.

We were deciding between both of them and went for a multipla as fitting our carseats wouldn't happen, and we've been burned by one too many french cars.

If it has to be one of them, citreon.

NagooingForGold · 11/08/2012 11:35

I did used to love that car though. When it works it's a beautiful thing. Sadly there are too many very expensive parts that are held on by plastic paperclips that snap off.

SweetBabyJebus · 11/08/2012 11:42

Oh god! That bad then, eh?!

Looks like it's back to trawling through autotrader then...

Damn it, I liked the look of the scenic!

Well, I loved my Scenic when I first got it, so much, that DP got one as well. We had no end of problems with them, and fixing them is a nightmare, due to the way the are built. It ended up costing more than one of them was worth.

French engineering for you.

We are going German next time, or possibly Jap.
