I'm doing up a basket for friends of ours of all the little things that you need with a baby, but don't really think about.
-bibs
-muslin squares (best gift I got!)
-diapers
-babygros
etc

I found taht all the gifts I got were for when DS was older which I appreciate now, but at the time I thought it would have been nice to get stuff that I could use right away.

Saying that, if you are thinking about getting something for an older baby get a Bumbo Baby seat. I wish I had gotten ours way earlier!

DON'T get any stuffed toys (she'll get tons!)
DON'T get any outfits that aren't easy to get the baby in and out of.

One of my favourite things we bought for our second was the Wimmer Ferguson mobile. It has black and white pictures which you change into basic colour ones and then more advanced colour ones. A great toy for the cot.

We bought it on ebay for about £15 but I think they are around £40 new.

Grobags are fab too.

what about a \link{http://www.spiritofnature.co.uk/acatalog/sect741.html\ lambskin or one of the other lovely things on here}

Mazzystar · 08/03/2006 16:22

a lambskin - either a rug or for in the pushchair/car seat

a baby nest/rubber ring thing

i was really touched by a friend who sent a tiny token and card when ds was born but a few weeks later brought me a beautiful photograph album - with a few sneaky pics of me when pregnant and early photos of ds in it. made me cry actually

I would get a personalised fleece blanket from \link{http://www.dorlingkoper.co.uk/blanketnamestarheart%20page.htm\here}.
My ds and dd both had smallish cot blankets exactly like these which I bought from Urchin (but they only do the big size now) and they love them. They still have them on their beds and it's one of their security things. Because they're fleece they wash really well and we've never had to be too precious with them, despite them being real keepsake items.

sorry - have just seen that you're not sure of the sex, never mind the name!
I would go with the lambskin suggestion.

My DS loves his \link{http://www.babysleepshop.com/acatalog/Taggies.html\Taggie} comforter - it's a fleece square or blanket (they have various items) with silky labels sewn round the outside.

thanks for these suggestions, will definetly go with the lambskin i think.
