New car suggestions

I have a 7 year old c-max. Owned from new. Been really reliable. However, my dh has just survived a head-on high speed crash and now wants to buy me a new car. He wants it to be really safe. I can't decide what to get. I was considering a new c-max but I can't get excited about it as it would be the 3rd I've owned.

Have looked at new Volvo v40 and the Honda civic. Any suggestions (up to 20k) would be appreciated.

Volvo have a reputation for being built like tanks, Renault tend to get good results in the above tests. Some that you would expect to be safe (Land Rovers/Range Rovers) are not always so good.

Thanks. Went to see the Honda but wasn't keen. Ford have a new bmax out soon some may pop and see it. The Volvo does look good though
