How to waterproof a dry-clean only polyester raincoat?

Have a four seasons 100% polyester raincoat that is in need of an urgent clean and reproof. Got soaked today! No idea how to do it though. Do dry cleaners reproof? Is there a cheaper way of doing it at home? Have seen spray-on waterproofing stuff e.g. Nikwax, but that seems to be for tents and outdoor gear rather than a plain raincoat. Any ideas anyone?

Nikwax does a clothes one too but you really need their wash-in one to get it to last.
If you don't have a tumble dryer however, I'd recommend the Grangers cleaner and re-proofing sprays over the Nikwax one. link here to spray

Thanks for your reply MoonlightandRoses. Why did you mention having a tumble dryer? We do have one. Does that change things? I know I can use something like Dr Beckmann to 'clean' the coat in the tumble dryer, but is there a way I can reproof it in there too?

Can't actually understand why something that is 100% polyester is Dry-clean only anyhow .. but not sure if I want to risk washing it. But then, if it's not waterproof it's not much use, so maybe I don't have anything to lose!

I have used scotch guard waterproofing on raincoats after washing them

It's because for the wash in proofer, you need to chuck the garment into the drier afterwards for it to fully take effect.

Seems practically everything is 'dry-clean only' nowadays - I have a feeling it may be to ward off any shrinkage complaints / returns. A 30 degree wash and then the cooler dryer setting should be fine with polyester though.
