I have 3 monsters, I mean chldren, 3 1/2, 2 1/2 and 6 months. I need to hire a car in the UK for 6 weeks (I live abroad normally) that can accomodate all of the kids and car seats, plus the Nanny and husband and wife, all of the luggage, a double and a single pushchair. Does ANYBODY know of a good car hire company that will provide a large car and a roof rack?

I would think the big car hire companies will hire out the sort of 7 seater you need. Try \link{http://www.avis.co.uk/avisonline/gb/avis.nsf?Open&TID=t/0127584F\AVIS}, \link{http://www.alamo.co.uk/?campaign=ppc\Alamo}, \link{http://www.europcar.co.uk/\Europcar}

any of them i would imagine. all the car hire companies i've ever used always offer a large min-van option.

NannyL · 28/02/2006 19:46

see if you can hire a Crysler grand voyagaer.... im sure that will fit you all in!

magicfarawaytree · 28/02/2006 20:36

dont know of the car hire co but definitely get a grand voyager ( the new stow and go version- all the seats can be folded into the floor - excellent when you dont want the hassle of taking seats out to make room for all the paraphanalia that goes with the tiddlers) the storage by is hands down so much better than any other people carrier. The seating options are flexible as well although the isofix fitting in the rear straddle two seats. But you can get a third child in the back without having to fold down a seat.

Grand Voyagers etc \link{http://www.henfield-hire.com/listing.asp?category=cars\available here} - manual £360 a week which sounds reasonable, esp as it says "All our rates include VAT, insurance, breakdown cover and unlimited mileage for UK use".

They also do Previas which are also huge but possibly not as easy to access the 3rd row.

JanH - thank you! Absolutely fab.

..........back to this. Tried recommended company but they have problems. ANYBODY out there with ideas for other companies with Grand Voyagers? The 'normal' hire car companies have only the regular MPV's, ie Toyota, Seat etc etc

CountessDracula · 07/03/2006 16:50

previas are as big as grand voyagers fyi

ChampagneandNappies · 07/03/2006 16:58

oh you clever girl - thanks!

ChampagneandNappies · 07/03/2006 16:59

......and they have the RR Sport - even better! DH can have the Voyager.

ernest · 08/03/2006 13:30

omg 6 weeks' car hire is going to cost the earth...Shock we also don't live in uk & hired an mpv last summer for 2 week's & I'm still recovering from the shock!

ChampagneandNappies · 08/03/2006 13:45

I know it's scandalous. We just sold our car in the UK at Xmas. It was ridiculous to have so much money sitting outside the house and hardly being used. Plus it meant that everytime we went back to the UK we would have to go straight home at the beginning of our leave.

JanH · 08/03/2006 14:43

Shame about the other site - that City one works out at £784 a week PLUS 35p a mile Shock

Oh no - just seen that you do get 100 miles per 24 hours before that kicks in. Still...ShockShockShock

(C&N, I wondered if you were Tat!)

ChampagneandNappies · 08/03/2006 15:42

How did you figure that one?

JanH · 08/03/2006 15:44

What one?

ChampagneandNappies · 08/03/2006 15:55

2 names same person
