If you receive some for a present but they don't fit, do Gap have to change them even if you don't have a receipt?

don't know if they have to but they usually do.have alsways found them very good in that way.

mousiemousie · 26/02/2006 16:42

yes they will change them - but best if you have a gift receipt as if they have been reduced in price you will only get the current price without a receipt

DD was given a pair of trousers and a jumper that don't fit. The jumper will probably fit her in a couple of years but the trousers won't fit as they are 'long and lean'. The person that purchased them tried to return them to Gap and were told they can't have an exchange.

Just need to find a number to contact them. Does anyone know it? I'm in East London and there are no gap kids near me. Can't be bothered to travel to one if they are going to refuse an exchange when I get there.

they don't have to exchange them as there's nothing wrong with them. Have a look on gap.com which may have a store locator for the UK which gives phone numbers.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 26/02/2006 17:00

(Just tell them next time you do a mystery shopping assignment for them, they will get a crap report)

Im a mystery shopper and have done 2 for gap - the sales assistants get bonuses for them

alexsmum · 26/02/2006 17:01

odd. never had that.
mil bought ds a load of stuff in an outlet shop and none of it fitted.returned it all to a normal shop and they refunded everything.
i'd have asked to speak to manager i think.

kid · 26/02/2006 17:13

The clothes were bought by BIL + SIL, I don't know when they bought them as they do have a habit of buying presents in advance. BIL phoned this morning and spoke to DH and told him that Gap wouldn't change the clothes. DH didn't really understand him though, not sure if he gave a reason.

I just looked on the website and have sent them an email asking why we can't exchange. There is a store in Islington that I can get to, its a bit of a trek but not impossible. If that don't work, they can go on Ebay!

hi i am qualified in retail and customer care, they dont have to exchange them but if there is nothing wrong (ie used which im not saying they are) then it is only a good will gesture for shops to exchange with or without a receipt. it is usually only refunds that shops cant do without proof of purchase. if clothes are faulty then they are legally obbliged(sp) to exchange if no receipt or refund with a receipt.

LIZS · 26/02/2006 17:55

Agree with merrymum, they have no obligation to you especilaly since you are not the actual purchaser, and if it isn't current season stock they may not be prepared to use their discretion to do even an exchange at the current price. You can but ask, but they usually print Gift Receipts for such eventualities so you'd have proof of purchase and they can trace how much was originally paid. Do you have one as it might help.

crunchie · 26/02/2006 18:28

What they may have done is offered to exchange them at the current price for the clothes, which is probably less than was paid IYKWIM If you ebay BNWT Gap kids clothes you can usually make 50% of original price which could be more than Gap are offering.

kid · 26/02/2006 20:16

I did have a look on Ebay but they don't seem to sell well. They still have all the tags on.

Just waiting for a reply to my email at the moment.

kid, there's a baby gap at canary wharf, might be easier to get to? they are usually good about exchanging, unless perhaps the clothes were in the sale.

poptot · 26/02/2006 21:27

Hi what sort of clothes are they and to fit what age I've got a long and lean dd, would be willing to buy them.

kid · 27/02/2006 17:51

They are boot cut jeans long and lean for 7 year old. Also a blue fleece jumper with GAP on front and a hood, also a size 7. I think it is big for a 7 year old but then again, I only have my tiny 7 year old estimate the size on!
