Renault Clio - Can I fit 3 child seats in the back?

I've got a renault clio, which had 3 seatbelts in the back..I have been googling but can't find out if the middle seat belt is suitable to be used with a car seat (it would be a booster type one)..dh says he thinks it isn't suitable..but it is a 3 point belt.
Any advice?

NO you cant... at leats not in mine!

i've got a clio and in October spent ages in mothercare trying out all the combinations possible of the (safe in whcih magazine) car seats availaible...

There was no way i was gonna get 3 of any combination in the back... although just another inch or 2 was often all the was needed!

I think the seatbelt is fine but there's no way on earth you'll fit 3 seats in unless they're narrow ones - I can't fit 3 in the back of my Laguna (not and access the seatbelt sockets).

I think you'd need to be careful wrt "buckle crunch" because if it's like the Laguna, the middle belt sockets come up proud of the main seat and can rub on the hard bit of the carseat.

its unlikely! i have a zafira and i cant even fit 3 child seats on the middle row of seats

bluebear · 26/02/2006 16:46

oh well, thanks guys - dh was certain the belt would be the problem, but I was trying to work out how that little space in the middle would be big enough for a booster.
Other two seats would be the type which stay in the car and have integral straps so would only need to get to one seatbelt socket.
I want to be able to take ds's friend out with us without leaving dd at home!
Knew I should have bought a fiat multipla

If you put any car seat in the middle it will cover the sockets for the side seats. Also, the side seats will cover the socket(s) for the middle seat so there's no way round it! It's a complete PITA - I'm going to have to ask the garage to disable the airbag when I take my Laguna in for a service and I'm sure they can't do it. I have to put one child in the front seat in a booster at the moment which is ridiculous for a car the size of a Laguna.

Would echo everyone else I have 2 in the back of my Clio now and wouldn't think you could squeeze another one in.

:O spacecadet at not being able to fit 3 in a Zafira I was looking at them as next car purchase!

bluebear · 26/02/2006 17:10

I'll add one good point for the Clio - the buckles are embedded in the seat so no buckle crunch!
I've got 2 seats in there at the moment (a big front facing thing, and a high backed booster) and I can get to the middle socket - I've sat there myself, between the two kid's seats, when we've had another adult in the car. (and I'm not skinny)

Commiserations to all those with the 'whats the point of the 3rd seat if I can't use it' blues.

my friend has a clio. we once went on a short day trip in it with 3 kids in the back. two front facing ones (the bigger ones not booster and a rear facing one with a baby in.

It was a real squeeze and tbh probably not safe. it took s ages of jiggling to get the seats in and done up. on the way home the baby seat had popper out of the buckle so he wasn't done up at all never again

spacecadet · 26/02/2006 17:40

woops shouldnt have said that sweetkitty!
but no, 3 normal bulky car seats wont fit on the middle row but 2 car seats and an adult or a booster sit will fit, i very rarely use the middle seat on mine anyway, i put 2 of the dc's who dont need car seats on the back row(where i cant hear them argueing)

NannyL · 26/02/2006 18:35

i too can fit 2 children (in what ever car seat they are in) and an adult in EASILY in my clio...

but any car seat that will protect them in a crash at least reasonably well will NO WAY fit in the back simulatnously...

(couls SOOOO nearly get 3 Britax Highliners in tho... but not quite!)

NannyL · 26/02/2006 18:36

also i CANT get 2 (good)car seats and a booster in the back of my clio....

(have never tried the 'bad' car seats cause i wouldnt put kids in them anyway!)

bluebear · 26/02/2006 19:25

It's frustrating isn't it - just one more inch would probably make it feasible.
Oh well, my dream of taking all the children to a 'day out with thomas the tank engine' will only happen if I can be brave enough to drive dh's car/tank!
