Theres a long story behind me wanting this chair. I work hard and have been saving the money for a while and now that it comes to the crunch I'm feeling guilty at the thought of how many nappies/clothes and toys I could buy the dc with that money!

My childhood was bleak and there was no money for any luxuries (food was considered a luxury even)which perhaps makes me want this even more it would be a constant reminder of how far we have come!

I've always dreamt of having something that would be an heirloom for me to hand down and I had my heart set on this. The chair really is not to everyones taste so thought it best not to post a link to it here

if you can afford it then buy it, it's a nice chair..it's certainly not the worst thing to spend money on

alternatively buy a brilliant antique

I've got that one tissy. It is already 20 years old and inherited from FIL so def an heirloom. It is v comfortable but you have no dignity while sitting on it.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 23/02/2006 21:26

doesn't do it for me I'd go for hepburn or oscar or sonoma or ethan and have some change. But that's not the point. If it does it for you and you have the money you should get it.

WideWebWitch · 24/02/2006 16:59

So, are you going to buy it?

Tissy, I like that one!

Love the Bacall on the New Heights site, DH hankers after a proper Eames chair & one day, for his 40th maybe, I'll get him one. If you've saved this long & gone without for yourself then buy it. It'll look even more gorgeous with a couple of strategically placed & carefully chosen cushions if that's exactly what you want. Imagine it in a bay window on a balmy Summers evening when the kids have gone to bed or a cosy Winter's evening when the kids have gone to bed.... . as long as you won't treat it like glass & you're so precious about it you won't enjoy it then why the heck not!

Yes! I'm going to order my chair this weekend.

I am very excited and look forward to years of being precious about anyone sitting on it, the babies anywhere near it and back ache.

congratulations, I think it is a sexy chair.

How about trying to find where it's made?

I nearly bought \link{http://www.hamptonmcmurray.co.uk/showroom/clandon_large.htm\this chair} in different fabric recently. It was in a factory sale locally for £149 along with lots of other lovely stuff made by the JDP group at about 10% of retail price.

I hope you will be very happy together Smile. Have you a lovely bay window you can sit it in in your bedroom? I live in a modern box-shaped house & I'd love an old fashioned bay window with a chaise longue in it to recline on in the lovely summer evenings.
