How did you get on? We're you happy with the price you got for your car?

We sold a Subaru via auction. Very happy with the whole thing. We set a reserve do we got the price we wanted and the fees were quite small.

We failed to sell a car at auction (also a Subaru). Was a huge hassle and waste of money for us. Good if it works, I imagine.

We haven't ever sold a car at auction. But I just wanted to say selling a car (without putting it in for part exchange) is a hassle all round. We recently had to sell my mother's car - it was relatively new and in good condition. We tried the dealer (who really didn't want it), and a couple of reputable second hand dealers (one of which did take it). It took hours of haggling (luckily DH is good at that - I hate it), and we didn't get a good price.

Selling privately - you have the hassle of having to deal with people coming to look at it, coping with test drives etc.

Selling at auction also has its pitfalls - but as long as you are realistic about the price and the location means it isn't too much hassle then it is worth considering.

Good luck.

I sold a car on eBay once. However it was old and only worth a few hundred. Got more than I thought but got lots of messages from people wanting me to end auction early.
