dd's pride and joy (age 5) is a diary with a little key so she can write (ok, scrawl!) stuff in it and then lock it up

make sure neighbour likes ballet

my five year olds love stickers, pencil cases, fluffy pens, those books you can get where you can dress up the cardboard model with paper clothes. Tescos do fab girly stuff, make your own purse, bead making kits etc, simple stuff they can do on their own. Like the diary with lock idea

think person who gave it to her got it in Woolies

Mercy · 21/02/2006 19:58

Funky Friends (?) do quite a lot of stuff that dd likes. Coloured plastic paper clips, glitter pens, rulers and notebooks etc.

She particularly likes little ink pads and stamps which I think we got in Paperchase.

Larger branches of Boots, WH Smith also do this sort of thing

Mercy · 21/02/2006 20:13

dd got the lettering book for Xmas

Would have thought there is something similar available in the UK

Eowyn · 21/02/2006 20:17

as before mine loves writing notes & STILL loves stickers, also glitter pens so little notelet sets go down well. & don't cost much.

we had the purse making kit from Tesco, apparantly that was my job & I excelled myself by sewing it inside out & had to re-do the whole thing.

5 year old girls i know also like

geomag
lego
ello (the girly lego stuff)

my 5 year old likes bug collecting kits, anything to do with insects, books about "facts", and most things crafty/arty. her current favourite story is about Joe Simpson (the climber, Touching the Void).

have pity on mothers of girls we don't all want to be inundated in glitter and ballerina stuff

cece · 21/02/2006 20:26

mine likes those make your own ...... kits. Not sure I like them so much though!

She also likes My Little Pony, Jigsaws, Little fiddly doll things like Polly POcket, jewellery (cheap plastic and gaudy please!) and dressing up shoes/clothes.

DD's love this

Aero · 21/02/2006 21:01

Dd loves her sticker maker. It's the cello one (£15), but boots and I'm sure others do a cheaper version at around £8.

Polly Pocket has also been a hit and absolutely anything which involves colouring, sticking, and being generally crafty (know craft is your favourite thing ), which does my head in as ds2 (2) always wants to get involved.
