I've just finished the Penal Colony and it was great, a real page turner!

Looking for good free books (not classics) to take on my holidays.

It was a good read, only took me a few days. Haven't had time to start anything else yet Sad. Im making my way through Land Girls at the minute, its ok but not as exciting.

In so impatient I'm tempted to ditch it and move on but almost half way

I thought The Penal Colony was brilliant as well. I haven't liked any of the other free reads as much, except for Sherlock Holmes.

I'm glad I found this thread as I will now go and have a look at the Kindle forum.

ChakotayBlue · 03/06/2012 08:46

Yes, Penal Colony was fantastic wasn't it? I don't read a lot of free books, they tend to be rubbish or old. Although P.C. was an exception IMO.

Get yourselves onto eBay and buy a disc - do a kindle search for eBooks. I got a disc with 10,000 books on for £2.50. I was dubious at first, bit it is AMAZING! It actually works and I have read a good few, no problem, no bits missing etc which I was worried about. Some really good books on it too - examples on mine include

The girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy
The hunger games trilogy
all the harry potters
twilight series
Game of thrones series
75 Steven kings
Wolf Hall
60 odd dean Koontz
Sophie kinsella, Danielle steel, freya north, Phillipa Gregory, Tess gerritson, Dan brown, Harlan Cohen, nicci French, lee Childs, c.j Samson, oh there are thousands!

Dread to think how much all would cost on amazon - tens of thousands of pounds.

It seems too good to be true, but it really isn't.

Happiest day of my life when it arrived! I got a kindle for Christmas but im allways skint, and read really really fast, so I was a tad disappointed thinking I'll never have any books on it, I read on average a book every 2/3 days.

Look for ones in mobi format then all you do is plug in your kindle and drag and drop the files onto it.
