Manor House chilled fresh soup - DH is just trying the tomato and basil and is ecstatic. Ingredients are:

tomatoes 59%
tomato puree 26%
onion
sugar
veg oil
extra virgin olive oil (0.7%)
basil (0.6%)
salt
maize starch
garlic puree
oregano
black pepper

honestly, it tastes like home-made. 85p for 500g

I also bought leek & potato and chunky veg but we haven't tried them yet.

Their potato salad is gorgeous too.

Surfermum · 19/02/2006 19:31

Ooh thanks. Dd loves soup.

Their washing powder and liquid is half price at the moment, so I bought 15 litres of the stuff!

JanH · 19/02/2006 19:33

Haven't tried that, cece - next time!

I think it must be the German background. It says on the container "specially made for Lidl UK GmbH" but not where it was made.

All the prepared food has mostly fresh ingredients and not an E number or preservative in sight.

Their potpurri is lovely, too. I got some for my bday and it's gorgeous.

LadyTophamHatt · 19/02/2006 19:37

Oh Lidl....how I love thy!

The nearest one is 9 miles away from me now and I'm gutted.

satine · 19/02/2006 19:38

I reckon their potato salad contains crack cocaine as I cannot stop eating it. Every time I go to the fridge, if there's a carton of it in there it calls to me and I end up standing by the fridge with a fork, guiltily stuffing my face!!

LadyTophamHatt · 19/02/2006 19:50

the coleslaw is lovely too.

A wierd one but the washing up sponges are brilliant too(called aquapur). A pack of 6 is 47p an the green side stays good for ages and I've never ever had one when the green come off.

When we moved I bought 8 packets with me!!!
Buy them next time your there, they are FAB...and buy some for me too[wink[

JanH · 19/02/2006 19:52

And look at the jam!!!!

Those are big jars and it's like home-made too.

The 70%+ dark chocolate (as good as Lindt),
cornichon guerkins,

I've also heard good things about the walnut icecream but I've not tried it yet...

unicorn · 20/02/2006 12:46

ooh yes a thumbs up for the walnut ice cream... and the coffee one is yummy too.

the mozzarella cheese is pretty good value and exactly like the other more expensive ones.

I've just been converted to the Cien nappies after reading the last Lidl thread. They really are great and I wish I had started using them sooner, would have saved a fortune.
They even have the sizes on each one which is so useful when you have more then one child in nappies.
I also stocked up on the special offer washing liquid and had no problems with it.

Haven't tried the food range yet.

fisil · 22/02/2006 21:09

I was using cien nappies ... until I found that the Tesco Value ones are just as good and much cheaper!

kiskidee · 22/02/2006 21:16

Dh's office is across the road from a Lidl. he came home raving about their blackcurrant cordial (better than Robinson's he reckons.) But it is the cheaper one (@85p) in the rectangular bottle not the more expensive one in the long-necked bottle.

dd is in cien nappies too.

BettySpaghetti · 22/02/2006 21:24

I did the Lidl run today (probably go once every 6-8 wks) to get the usual things that are far better there than your everyday supermarket:
jam
marmalade
chocolate
parmesan
olive oil
fruit juice
pumpernickel
ciabatta
walnuts
etc.

Thanks for the tip about the soup JanH -keep hearing about other things to try from there.
