Insulating single glazed windows cheaply

My friend has just moved into a student house and the only place that their bed will fit is beside a window, and its cold.

I suggested heavy lining for the curtains, but they cant have the cutrains closed during the day (well, they could, but there must be a better option!)

I think I heard about a film that you can put over a window which effectively makes a single into a double glazed...Am I imagining things ??! Can think of what it would be called as had a quick search on google, and came up with nothing.

Any help would be appreciated!

I've definitely seen this a diy shops, it's a plasticy stuff and you use a hair-dryer to heat seal it onto the window frame. According to friends who have tried it it doesn't work particularly well, but it's better than nothing.

I can't remember what it's call either, sorry.
