Any recommendations gratefully received. I'm not quite a technophobe but I have no experience or knowledge of kindles.

TIA

the basic "Kindle" - £89.

We all (dh, dd and myself) have that one and are very happy with it. I have heard good things about the new Touch but see no need to spend more - esp for a child.

dd who is 9 loves hers!!

You can preload it with some free books as well as any he has been hankering for so that it is ready to go when he opens it.

we all have ours on the one amazon account - mine - so we can share titles and also because for the foreseeable future I am in charge of ordering any of dd's books. She is not allowed to go on and buy anything she likes when she likes:)

I agree with everything alittlebitshy has said Grin

thank you very much. So with the 'basic' one, do we down load books onto it by using the wifi at home?

yep. easy peasy. I thought it sounded complicated...until i got mine in November and discovered how simple it is.

If you buy it for amazon it will even be pre-registered to your amazon account so all you will have to do is charge and set up the wifi and you're in!!

do you all have covers? i like the thought of the one with the build in light but at £49.99 i'm not so sure Shock

re covers: we all got one off ebay - it was a tenner i think and came with a slide in light which i have not used much - but did on an aeroplane or when in a room with sleeping children!

have used both the kindle and, obviously, the cover continuously for almost 6 months now and the case is still doing its job - am very glad i didn't spend more on a proper one!
