DD2 has a Blossom Farm play mat thing and she has the black & white mobile thing over her cot.

I want to get her something else she can lie under. Any reccomendations? Not too huge and not too plasticy.

Btw - she is 8 weeks old.

Can you get her a bouncer with toy bar? DS1 LOVED his.

Like this

DS1's one folds up and we used to take it all over the place with us - better than a playmat thing as they're more upright and can interact. You can hang other toys off the bar to vary it a bit. I'll show you DS's one and you can try DD2 in it if you like?

thomcat I use a fisherprice one will try and find it, also used it for ds and both he and DD have/are really enjoying it. Have seen it on sale in toys r us for £15.

Nemo1977 · 13/02/2006 17:23

mmm doesnt seem to be on sale on the website..maybe it was with argos but this is it Hannah is 8wks and she likes it and adam had it from birth but it also converts as they get older into a pretend keyboard.

we have the older verfsion of the one nemo put up, and it's been great- both dds have used it - when they kick it or manage to swing the dangly bits the music plays , it's all classical stuff ( or ours is)
but I don't think much of these types of toys - I don't think it encourages young babies to be on their bellies and strengthen their necks, etc. The temptation to plunk them under the mat is pretty big ( I know!) and then leave them there

My DD LOVED the Tiny Love play mat-we added stuff to it such as musical chimes for her to kick at which they sell seperately.
Would definitely recommend it-lasted until she could get up on hands and knees as she liked pressing the pressure pads to play music.

I had a 'flat mat' sort of play gym for my ds to lie in but would defintely defintely get a doughnut type one next time. Both have bars over with toys and mirrors hanging off. Wasn't anything wrong with the flat one but doughnut sort must be more comfy and safe and also would help when she starts learning to sit up I think. HTH

Toothyboy · 13/02/2006 22:12

I had a flat one for ds, but am planning to get a doughnut one this time - for the same reason as Laura!

WestCountryLass · 13/02/2006 22:16

My doughnut one was a PITA as a gym but really great for a sitting up baby, without the gym stuff erected. My cat punctured the doughnut two many times and DS finally did it in when he sat on it really hard and it completely split the inner tube down the seam. Personally I would go for the Tiny Love one, have found TL toys to be great!

Whoozit do a travel gym that might be good?

eidsvold · 13/02/2006 23:23

I used the galt one with dd1 - she lay under that and then gradually blew it up as she got older - then she had the donut shape to sit inside.... I wish I had brought it to Aus with us for dd2.

here

it is large but dd1 absolutely loved it - climbing in and out and playing with all the toys that hang down - you can then attach other little toys that they like.
